Giant Sunflower

This sunflower is planted in the ground at Brenda's house. It is supposed to get up to 12 feet tall however this one is only about 4 feet and it has already bloomed and has about 3 more smaller flowers on it besides this one.

Swiss Chard

Chris grew this from seed. It is now in a self-watering container on the front porch. (yes our porch has a lot of plants on it)

Peppers!

This is a close up of one of the really hot jalapenos from a previous post and also a volcano pepper grown hydroponically on the front porch.

Yellow Pear

This is the tomato we are growing in the topsy turvy. It is a Yellow Pear tomato and is an heirloom variety. The tomatoes will be small like cherry tomatoes except pear shaped and yellow.

Strawberry

Lots of little strawberries in another self-watering container. These strawberries dont get very big but man are they delicious!

Various Tomatoes

A Cherokee Purple tomato, a violet(hidden in the middle) and a Carolina Gold tomato.  All in self-watering pickle bucket/kitty litter bucket containers.

Frosted Explosion!

I think this is one of the prettiest plants I've ever seen.  It is an ornamental grass and it accidentaly has a lettuce or something growing in it but we recently pulled that out so now it is even prettier.

Patio Tomato

This patio tomato is much larger than we expected it to get. It is about twice the size of the ones in our garden planted in the ground at brenda's. It is supposed to be a heavy producer and it looks like that is an accurate description so far. The tomatoes  look really healthy although none have started to turn red yet. It is planted in a pickle bucket self-watering container sitting in our front yard.

really hot jalapenos

We have been growing these jalapenos for about 9 months, maybe more. First we had it inside in a hydroponics system under standard flourescent lights and it wasnt growing any larger than about 3 inches. Then we got a better light and it grew to about its full size and flowered but never grew any fruit. Then we moved it outside once it was warm enough and now it has tons of fruit on it and some have turned red. Becky, Kenny and Chris all agree the red ones are very hot.

topsy turvies

Beware of Cat

Meet Kittypus, keeper of the garden.

Ornamental Grass

Frosted explosion.  Grown from seed.  We got this from johnny's.

First yellow pear!

This is the first cluster on the yellow pear tomato plant.  We got this from swarts garden.  It is growing in a topsy turvy.  See previous posts for growth comparisons.

Various tomatoes

The white bucket has a cherokee purple.  The middle pickle bucket has a carolina gold.  These are on our front porch.  All self watering containers.

The Georgia Streaks

These are the first heirlooms we have been able to grow.  We pinched off the first set of blossoms to help the foliage grow out a bit more.  Go back a few posts and check out how small these were when we transplanted.  These came from seed.  They are growing in a generation 1 earthbox.  Earthboxes really do work. This has foxfarm ocean forest soil and we supplement with a bit of tiger bloom every week.

GH Waterfarm Update

This tomato was transplanted from the post seedling stage into the waterfarm after we euthanized the broccoli.  I think this is a delicious tomato, but not sure.  My record keeping gets a little fuzzy after about 50 tomato plants.

Patio tomato not so determinate!

This guy has gotten quite large.  A cluster of good size tomatoes are growing nicely.  In a 5 gallon pickle bucket.

Wouldn't You Like to Have a Pepper Too?

Maggie bought a topsy turvy for peppers.  We finally planted it and hung it up on Monday.  This one has 8 slots for peppers to grow out the sides instead of the bottom.  This has 2 kinds of peppers, a carnival bellpepper mix and mini yellow bells.  These are the kinds you can pop in your mouth for a quick snack.  These were all started in bark sponges we got from progressive gardens.  I am feeding with a dilute solution of tiger bloom from foxfarm.  I am mixing 3 tsp per gallon and adding it the top once a week and doing a general watering everyday.   More as this one grows.

Topsy Turvy Update

This is a yellow pear heirloom growing in the turvy.   We got the plant at Swarts a couple of weeks ago.  It is amazing how much it has grown.  This guy is all organic.  Using foxfarm ocean forest soil, fish meal and water.  The soil smells so good, you wouldn't mind being buried alive in it.... seriously.

It's.....It's..... It's a Patio!

The first tomatoling of the season from our garden.  This one is a patio.  It is growing in a 5 gallon self watering pickle bucket!
